Sheriff in Nancy Guthrie investigation says briefly detained man was ‘person of interest’

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Saturday that a man briefly detained in the Nancy Guthrie case Friday “was our person of interest.”

Nanos described the man in an interview with Fox News as cooperative — but did not elaborate on what he meant by the “person of interest” designation or whether the individual was believed to have any direct connection to Guthrie’s disappearance.

The man was later released. He is believed to own a gray Range Rover that authorities searched and towed as part of the investigation.

At a separate nearby residence, three additional individuals were detained when the FBI executed a federal search warrant Friday night. All were later released.

Nanos said he was not present during that search, noting it is standard practice to allow investigators operational freedom at the scene.

He emphasized that no arrests were made and that “no sign of Nancy was found.”

Looking ahead, Nanos told Fox that residents should expect heightened law enforcement visibility as leads continue to be evaluated.

“These leads start in the command post and move to the field as needed,” Nanos said.
