The Wizard of Oz character Dorothy said, “there’s no place like home” over eighty years ago. When Shedeur Sanders emerged from behind a doorway surprising father Deion Sanders, the reaction was genuine.
In a live stream Shedeur put out only days ago, he seems rather convincing when he said he would not make it out to Boulder for the CU Homecoming. That video went semi-viral with Sanders fans and Cleveland Browns fans when he said, “I have to get ready, BIG ready…” As it turned out, that might’ve been to keep Dad off the scent of his travel plans.
Coach Sanders seemed to be filled with surprise, joy, enthusiasm and an emotion that maybe only a father would understand. The father and son embraced while both kept repeating the same thing. Coach Sanders repeating “why are you here?” While Shedeur kept repeating “you need your son”.
Maybe the most entertaining aspect of this reunion was quick but unmistakable. One the consistent narratives behind the offseason and regular season in 2025 for Colorado was how would the elder Sanders fair without his QB son for the first time in his coaching career? The first words uttered by Coach Sanders on this gameday following their initial embrace was meant to be funny but indicates how difficult that transition has been.
“Oh you playing today” Coach Sanders said. “Go get your stuff on, you playing today.”
Throughout the videos supplied by Well Off Media, of the two prior to the game, revealed a joyful Prime the local media has not seen from him for a little while. There has been relieved and triumphant Prime, as seen in his Cancer free press conference. There was proud Prime when his team beat the nationally ranked Iowa State Cyclones.
However, there has been a decent amount of “frustrated” or “at a loss of words” Prime lately. The father and son bonding time was likely good to see for both Buffs and Sanders family fans alike but also seemed cathartic for them both. After a difficult loss, Coach Sanders took a moment to acknowledge the reunion earlier in the day.
Family reunions and emotional responses were not the only interesting detail revealed on that day. Shedeur’s week to week status in the NFL has been a hot button NFL story all season. When injury has been cited for his status, droves of fans run to claim conspiracy theories. Bucky Sanders revealed days ago that Shedeur has indeed been dealing with a back issue. On Saturday, Shedeur was seen on video three different times getting treatment for his back injury.
Shedeur returned to Boulder looking different
Despite narratives to the contrary, Shedeur has been working to changing the player he is. Two women in particular, very familiar with Shedeur, immediate noticed changes. Deion Sanders business partner and CEO of SMAC entertainment, Constance Schwartz-Morini had very specific words to describe Shedeur.
“Seriously though, he’s ‘swole’, he’s swole.”
Lauren Askevold, the team’s Sports Medicine Coach, also noticed a conditioning difference. Lauren’s initial reaction was the most animated reaction revealed in these videos. Lauren almost leaped into Shedeur’s arms in excitement. Shedeur had to remind her he’s dealing with a back injury. After that initial reaction, Shedeur again sought treatment. This time on the underwater treadmill.
The reactions did not stop inside the building. When the former Buffaloe known as “Grown” entered the stadium, the Colorado Buffalo faithful in attendance showed how much they miss the former quarterback. Shortly thereafter, every fan in attendance got see something they haven’t seen since the 2024 season. “The walk”.

— ESPN College Football (@ESPNCFB) November 1, 2025The game did not go the way the fans would have hoped. The Colorado Buffaloes face a difficult road ahead to becoming bowl eligible. However, even if only for part of the day, the Sanders family and Colorado Buffaloes fans had something to be very happy about.
Both videos showing the behind the scenes story of Shedeur’s visit back to Boulder can be found on the Well Off Media YouTube page. The Buffaloes currently sit at 3-6 and will need to win out to become bowl eligible. Their next game is at West Virginia and will broadcast on TNT and HBO Max.
