The Cleveland Browns are coming out of the first wave of free agency without making any major moves at the quarterback position.
Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson are still the main quarterback options for Cleveland in 2026. Todd Monken has a tough decision to make, and he's already outlined his plan for the offseason to help make this decision.
Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN revealed that Monken's plan for the quarterback position this offseason will involve one QB getting the majority of the work. While Sander's hasn't been named that QB, his 2025 Pro Bowl season should be a big help in getting that job.
Shedeur Sanders gets good news from Todd Monken on QB job
"At the NFL's league meetings, Browns HC Todd Monken said QB reps won't be divided equally to begin offseason workouts," Oyefusi reports. "Who starts out getting the most reps will be decided on 'what we've seen in the past and where the year ended.'"
Of the three options for the Browns and Monken to choose from this offseason to lead their quarterback offseason workouts, Watson and Gabriel have shown the least upside.
Watson's struggles in the past few years, both with his play and his injury history, mean Cleveland could easily choose a different starter in 2026 instead of him.
While Gabriel wasn't a terrible quarterback last year for the Browns, he showcased very little upside to be a star quarterback in the NFL. He could be a quality backup for a long time, but being a star QB might be a bit too far of a reach.
Sanders, on the other hand, might have a low floor with his sack and interception struggles, but his ceiling is very high.

Last season was rocky, especially with Sanders not being given any first-team reps until he was thrust into the starting lineup. But that could change for year-two.
Sanders being given a chance to work with the first-team offense over the offseason, and getting a chance to start in year two in a new offense with a bolstered offensive line and receiver room, could be what the former Colorado quarterback needs to succeed.
Last year's offense when Sanders stepped in was far from ideal. The offensive line was hurt, and the receiver room was not in a good spot. Plus, David Njoku was out for most of the time he got in the starting lineup.
This report from Oyefusi, noting that Monken plans to give one QB the majority of the starting reps this offseason, could be great news for Sanders.
With his odds of being the future of the Browns quarterback room being the best of the current options on the roster, getting this offseason's starting chance is a very realistic outcome for Sanders.
