Shedeur Sanders has finally found a team.
The Cleveland Browns had several opportunities to take Sanders earlier, and even took another quarterback — Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel — in Round 3.
But in the fifth round, they finally took Sanders, whose freefall spanned multiple rounds — and days — beyond expected.
Sanders was selected at No. 144 overall and celebrated with his family during a Twitch livestream with his brother Shilo Sanders, which captured his initial reaction.
The new Browns QB also did a cannonball into the family pool to celebrate.
Sanders will join a lengthy quarterback depth chart that already includes four other signal callers.
On the Browns depth chart has Deshaun Watson, who ruptured his Achilles tendon in Week 7 of last season and is in doubt to play in 2025.
Also listed is veteran quarterback Joe Flacco, Pittsburgh Steelers draft washout Kenny Pickett, the rookie third-rounder Gabriel, and now Sanders, who would presumably be fourth for the time being when accounting for Watson’s injury.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that Browns quarterback coach Bill Musgrave was a teammate of Shedeur’s father Deion with the 49ers and are still friends today.
