The 2025 NFL Draft has not gone the way the Sanders family had hoped so far. Once projected to be one of the top picks, Shedeur Sanders fell completely out of Thursday night’s first round.
One by one, teams kept passing on the Colorado quarterback. That included the Cleveland Browns, who originally held the No. 2 pick. After Cam Ward was selected No. 1 overall by the Tennessee Titans, the Browns traded back with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who used the pick to select Sanders’ Colorado teammate, Travis Hunter.

Meanwhile, when the Browns picked at No. 5, they selected Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham — another passerby for Sanders.
Back in Boulder, Sanders, his father Deion, and other family members watched the event unfold together. In a video shot by Deion’s older son, Deion Jr., Shedeur appeared to throw some shade at the Browns — and at current Cleveland quarterback Joe Flacco.
"I tell you who they got," Shedeur said to Deion.
"Flacco," Deion responded.
"Flacco!" Shedeur said with emphasis.
"Flacco my age," Deion joked. "...I like Flacco."

The Browns added Flacco, who turned 40 in January, on a one-year, $4 million deal this offseason. He’s set to compete with Kenny Pickett, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, for Cleveland’s starting job.
Deion, who will turn 58 in August, clearly meant his comment in jest. But it was evident Shedeur was less than thrilled about the Browns' first-round decisions, or the others that followed.
"We all didn't expect this, of course," Shedeur said after the first round. "I feel like with God, anything is possible. Everything is possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason. All this is is, of course, fuel to the fire. Under no circumstance did we know this was gonna happen. But we understand we're on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow’s the day. We're gonna be happy regardless. Legendary."
The draft wait continues — but Shedeur is clearly motivated to make whoever picks him next regret they didn’t act sooner.
