In January, the Vegas Golden Knights looked more mortal and beatable. While they clearly still lead the Pacific Division, one wrong move by the Bruce Cassidy-led team could make them fall as far as the fourth seed. They lost to the Anaheim Ducks and found it hard to get back in the game too. So, Shea Theodore was clearly not pleased with how they performed in this 4-3 loss.
Vegas defenseman blasts their team's performance
There seems to be some complacency in the Golden Knights system in the past few weeks. This game against the Ducks marked their fifth-straight loss. Coach Cassidy could not find the proper rotations to spark a Golden Knights scoring barrage at all. When they did end up scoring two goals in the third period, it was all too late.
The Golden Knights' standing would clearly enrage a lot of people and fans. No one expressed their disappointment better than Theodore, via Dan Arritt of NHL.com.
"I thought we made some good plays, but overall just not good enough. There's two games left before the (Olympic) break and we want to be feeling good going into it. It seems like over the past little bit we've been chasing way too much and we've been relying on our comebacks. It's not good enough. We have to start better," the Golden Knights defenseman said.
He could very well be right. Vegas only started to heat up in the third period. More than just having to beat the Ducks, they also made an enemy of the game clock due to the lack of time they had to salvage the game. On defense, the collapses were very evident too. It only took Anaheim 22 shots to beat them. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights had 31 shots on goal but just could not orchestrate an early offense to find the back of the net more.
The Golden Knights can start to solidify themselves as the clear top team again when they go up against the Vancouver Canucks and LA Kings. Will they be able to pull off the turnaround before the Milano Cortina Olympics start and halt all NHL games until the end of February?
