Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Anthony Edwards have an off-court feud brewing

The Oklahoma City Thunder are just two games into the regular season and an off-court beef is already brewing between Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Anthony Edwards.

Gilgeous-Alexander released his first signature shoe with Converse, the SHAI 001, earlier this fall, with multiple colorways hitting the market. The reigning MVP first debuted his new shoe at All-Star Weekend and showcased several versions during the team's postseason run in 2024-25.

While promoting his Converse collaboration, Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder defeated the Timberwolves in the Western Conference finals last season before going on to win the title. The shoe brand released an advertisement that appeared to mock Edwards following the series, prompting a response from the Timberwolves star.

Edwards released the adidas Anthony Edwards 2 this fall, with more colorways on the horizon. In preparation for Saturday's release of the “Blue Burst” edition — a tribute to the Timberwolves — adidas dropped a new advertisement with comedian and actor Katt Williams.

“Now I know what y’all gon’ say, there's a certain two-guard not named Anthony Edwards who's all the rage right now. I can't deny it. He's doin’ his thing,” Williams said. “But he's lucky his game is as smooth as his little poems, because them shoes? No thank you. The game left that brand behind for a reason. What else we bringing back? Cigarettes in the locker room?”

Edwards also addressed Converse and Gilgeous-Alexander's video from last May that referenced him. In an interview with Complex in September, the 24-year-old embraced the competition and promised a rebuttal.

“If you still worried about me, that means we doin’ something right,” Edwards said. “We don't feel no type of way about it; we love it. We gon’ have something back; we gon’ come back — don't worry about it.”

For now, Gilgeous-Alexander and Edwards will continue their feud off the court, with their next matchup coming Nov. 26 in Oklahoma City.
