Key additions: Jonathan Drouin, Maxim Shabanov, Emil Heineman, Matthew Highmore, Ethan Bear, David Rittich

The Isles acquired one of the more coveted free agent forwards in Jonathan Drouin to add to an offense in need of more production. They also got the most coveted KHL player in Maxim Shabonov who lit up the league last season with 67 points in 65 games.

Key subtractions: Noah Dobson, Cal Clutterbuck, Matt Martin, Mike Reilly, Scott Perunovich, Samuel Bolduc, Jakub Skarek

The Isles biggest loss is top defenseman Noah Dobson, who's departure was inevitable. However in return they got two 1st round picks that became Victor Eklund and Kashawn Aitchesen in what was a terrific draft for the Islanders.

Highest draft pick: Matthew Schaefer, 1st overall

Top pick Matthew Schaefer will push for a roster spot on next years Isles squad. If he makes the team, lock him in as a top Calder threat for rookie of the year.

Salary cap space: $3.8 million

Staff: New Islanders GM Mathieu Darche's reign has gotten off to a hot start fresh off making a 1st overall pick and a busy offseason. He took over at the end of last season, replacing Lou Lamoriello. Patrick Roy will return for his 3rd season as head coach. He will have two new assistant coaches in Bob Boughner and Ray Bennett.

Other: Ilya Sorokin's agent Dan Milstein recently shut down rumors that he has been in trade convos. The Isles starter has been caught up in the rumor mill of late.
