Beth sucked, but in a good way.
GOP Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley’s 1970s-era Hoover vacuum named Beth finally bit the dust after decades of being at his side as they battled filthy floors and awed the internet together.
The 92-year-old US Senate pro tempore announced the demise of his beloved vacuum cleaner and Web sensation Saturday after her plug sparked because of an apparent electrical malfunction.
U willl see Beth no more See black that’s from electrical sparks. It’s not safe to use anymore. GOOD BYE BETH . U hv been a real workhorse. Ur namesake still is hard worker. I will miss u pic.twitter.com/Zu5dAtDyvZ

The senator occasionally posted images or video of himself vacuuming with Beth. Instagram/senatorchuckgrassley“It’s a sad day at Grassley household,” Grassley added. “For my 34 years and 15 yrs before that at my mother in law’s home Beth has worked dependably.”
eth had emerged as a trusty sidekick to Grassley over the years, going viral during holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas thanks to images he posted of Beth gearing up for work.
The Iowan often crowed about Beth’s dependability.
Beth + I are ready & working hard to prepare for Grassley family thxgiving at the farm She never lets me down & im grateful I can count on OLD FAITHFUL pic.twitter.com/keMfHZkqJk
— Chuck Grassley (@ChuckGrassley) November 22, 2023Beth occasionally even became a fascination at political events Grassley headlined.
In 2023, Grassley posted an image of Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and him holding a cardboard cutout of Beth.
Vacuum cleaners’ lifespans vary but typically last at least eight years, according to Consumer Reports.
Grassley didn’t say how he intends to replace Beth or what brand he’ll likely select.
“Please respect Team Grassley’s privacy during this difficult time,” his rep Clare Slattery wrote in a tongue-in-cheek post on X.
