The holidays are on the horizon.
However, for Kevin Costner, this year will look a bit different following his divorce from ex-wife Christine Baumgartner.
The actor, 70, shares kids Cayden, 18, Hayes, 16, and Grace, 15, with Baumgartner, 51, who recently remarried. He is also dad to Annie, 41, Lily, 39, and Joe, 37, with ex-wife Cindy Silva and Liam, 28, with ex Bridget Rooney.
“I think when they were younger, there were things that were more repetitive,” Costner told Us Weekly. “Now you’re just fighting to get them home from college or fight. … You know what I mean, just getting together. So, I do the best I can to make it as warm as I can.”
The “Waterworld” star did confess that holiday traditions look a bit different than when he was married.
“And I’m a bachelor, so I kind of miss those, like, really cute things to do, you know, so I have to work especially hard to make sure there’s that stuff that they think about and remember,” Costner explained.
Baumgartner filed for divorce from Costner on May 1, 2023, after 18 years of marriage and listed her date of separation from the A-lister as April 11.
“It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” a rep for Costner said in a statement at the time. “We ask that his, Christine’s, and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
The exes reached a settlement in September 2023. Costner and Baumgartner agreed to joint custody of their kids. The Oscar winner was also ordered to pay the designer more than $63,000 a month in child support.
Costner and Baumgartner finalized their divorce in February 2024.
In January, after turning 70, a source close to Costner told People he is “in a good place and having fun with his family and friends.” He was also previously linked to Jewel.
In December 2024, rumors of a romance with Jennifer Lopez swirled after they were spotted at the same Aspen clothing store. “He is not seriously involved with anyone and not necessarily looking for anything more than that right now,” the insider continued.
The source revealed that Costner was focused on spending time with his kids and dog.
“Kevin is cool, real and in some ways old-school in his thinking. He has a lot of interests and loves being busy when he is in that mode.”
In August, Costner was said to be “casually” seeing director and author Kelly Noonan Gores, 46, per Us Weekly.
“They are hanging out casually and were connected by friends,” an insider told the outlet. “They both frequent Aspen often and have mutual friend groups. They have been getting to know each other and seeing each other casually when they can.”
Insiders also claimed that even though the rumored couple recently “spent time” together in Colorado, their relationship is “not serious.”
Last Thanksgiving, Costner shared photos of him with six of his seven kids.
The first photo showed the “Yellowstone” alum standing in the middle as his kids embraced once another while posing on the beach.
“Hoping you guys had a wonderful Thanksgiving with the people you love most,” Costner captioned the Instagram post. “At the top of my ‘grateful for’ list are the many really, really special memories I’ve gotten to make with my kids this year.”
“Here’s to a holiday season dedicated to making more,” he added.
A short clip also showed the two-time Oscar winner posing alongside his children at the LA premiere of “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1.” He was joined at the event by Annie, Joe, Cayden, Hayes and Grace.
This year, Costner is set to host the new ABC holiday special “Kevin Costner Presents: The First Christmas.”
The two-hour show tells the story of Mary, Joseph and the birth of Jesus.
“It’s a story I think we all think we know,” Costner told People on Tuesday. “I think maybe some of us know a lot, maybe you know just a little, maybe you’re a believer, maybe you’re a cynic or maybe — hopefully — you’re just curious to find out the real story that’s behind the tradition.”
Costner said holiday traditions in his home aren’t “non-negotiable,” and they’re something he looks “forward to” each year.
“You actually hope that you’re home,” he continued. “I have a professional life that sometimes takes me away, but I rarely have been. So, the familiarity with what we do is is comforting.”
