The Ohio State Buckeyes’ quarterback room continues to thin as a second Buckeyes QB is saying they’ll enter the transfer portal, with Mason Maggs announcing his decision to move on from Columbus.

Maggs shared publicly that he plans to enter the transfer portal on January 2nd, noting that he expects to have “two years of eligibility remaining pending approval of a medical redshirt.” While his departure adds to the recent quarterback turnover for Ryan Day at Ohio State, Maggs made it clear the decision comes with gratitude and perspective.

Playing football at The Ohio State University has truly been a dream come true, and I am so proud to be a graduate of such a prestigious institution,” Maggs wrote. “I am so grateful for all of the lifelong relationships I have made in my time here. This brotherhood is so special.”

Maggs also took time to acknowledge those behind the scenes who helped shape his experience in Columbus. “I would like to thank all of my coaches, teammates, trainers, and everyone else in the Woody who pours so much time into this program for making the past four years so enjoyable. I am appreciative for each and every one of you,” he said.

His departure follows fellow backup Lincoln Kienholz entering the transfer portal and does not impact Ohio State’s plans at the top of the quarterback depth chart, with Julian Sayin expected to return. Instead, it reflects the broader reality of roster movement in the transfer portal era, particularly at the quarterback position.

Looking ahead, Maggs emphasized that his journey is far from over. “I’m looking forward to exploring new opportunities in the transfer portal and continuing to play the game I love somewhere else,” he wrote, adding, “I will always be a Buckeye for life.”
