Seattle Seahawks offensive line suffers another shocking setback image

Here's one you don't see every day. Coming out of their bye week the Seattle Seahawks should have been feeling fresh, rested and ready to take on their next opponent. At least one starting lineman apparently felt exactly the opposite - so much so that he's literally decided to take his ball and go home for good.

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald just informed reporters at the VMAC in Renton that starting center Connor Williams has decided to retire from the NFL. Instead, second-year center Olu Oluwatimi out of Michigan will be starting in his place in Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Needless to say, this comes as a bit of a surprise. Williams had started all nine games this season at center for Seattle after signing just before the season began. Williams was on the practice report this week, sitting out Wednesday and Thursday's practices for "personal reasons." Our only guess is that Williams may have suffered some sort of setback related to the major knee injury he suffered about a year ago with the Miami Dolphins, but we don't really have any clue.

No matter Williams' reasons, it's another blow to an offensive line that was already one of the weakest units in the league, especially the interior three. Perhaps the switch to Oluwatimi at center and the return of right tackle Abe Lucas to the lineup will inspire something good, but we wouldn't put money on it.
