Seattle Seahawks inching closer to reunion with former Pro Bowl defender

The Seattle Seahawks have flirted with the idea of bringing back cornerback Shaquill Griffin this offseason.

Initially a third-round pick of the Seahawks in 2017, Griffin spent the first four years of his career in Seattle, where he earned one Pro Bowl nod.

Since then, he has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings.

Earlier this offseason, the Seahawks brought Griffin in for a visit. Now, ESPN's Brady Henderson and Jeremy Fowler are reporting that the two sides are in discussions about a contract, but nothing is done yet.

"Seahawks are in discussions with free-agent corner Shaquill Griffin on a potential reunion, sources told Brady Henderson and me, Fowler wrote. "Seattle is looking for veteran corner help and has Griffin — who made a Pro Bowl as a Seahawk in 2019 — high on its list. No deal reached as of now."

While the Seahawks are set at one boundary cornerback spot and in the slot with Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon, respectively, the other boundary spot is a question mark.

Seattle could get a look at guys like Josh Jobe, Nehemiah Pritchett, Shemar Jean-Charles and 2025 undrafted free agent Zy Alexander, among others, but none of those players are even close to as proven as Griffin.

In his age-29 season, Griffin showed he can still make a big impact. The former Pro Bowler gave up an impressive completion rate of 54.4% and a passer rating of 75.8 when targeted. Griffin played 50% of the team's snaps and appeared in all 17 games.

He would instantly be the favorite to grab a starting role out of training camp.
