Seahawks' Sam Darnold heads to locker room early in season opener

The Seattle Seahawks began their Super Bowl defense on Wednesday night, taking on the team they had to take down to lift the Lombardi Trophy, the New England Patriots. Despite both teams welcoming and saying goodbye to various players, plenty of familiar faces remain, and for the Seahawks, that includes their starting quarterback, Sam Darnold.

Darnold took to the field on Wednesday night, helping distribute the ball early on in the opening drive for Seattle, but things would go awry when his team was heading off the field.

Darnold departs the field

When the 29-year-old was leaving the field, he was seen limping as he made his way, which led to him wincing on the sidelines afterward. While he wasn't reported to have any injury, the NBC broadcast later showed him heading into the tent and, shortly after, the locker room.

Through the opening drive in the second quarter, Darnold has yet to return to the field, with Drew Lock taking over his duties on the field.

Across his five snaps in the opening drive, Darnold threw for 13 yards.
