The Seattle Seahawks made the slightly surprising decision during the 2026 NFL Draft to take Jadarian Price with the No. 32 overall pick in Round 1.
After failing to find a trade-down partner, the Seahawks took the running back, who was the backup of No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love, to replace Kenneth Walker.
It would be fair to expect Price, a first-round RB, to see plenty of work right away, especially with Zach Charbonnet out for a while. However, ESPN's Brady Henderson revealed the plan at RB for Seattle, and it's not good news.
"But in projecting where Price will fit into that mix, it's best to view him as the Seahawks' replacement for Walker as opposed to their clear-cut RB1," Henderson writes. "That's because the defending Super Bowl champions also plan to use free agent addition Emmanuel Wilson, as well as George Holani, with Charbonnet expected to return at some point."
This plan from the Seahawks with their running back room is some bad news for Price. The new Seahawks running back will get work, but it doesn't look likely he will see a ton of playing time this year, like what one would expect from a Round 1 RB.

Price was the backup at Notre Dame, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he split time in the backfield. Teams rarely hand the ball to one running back all game nowadays anyway.
However, for a team to spend a first-round pick on an RB and then go and not use him in a bell-cow role is a bit disappointing.
Price ran for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns on 113 attempts this past season for the Fighting Irish, and while he wasn't a big receiving threat, he did score two touchdowns on 87 yards receiving on six receptions.

Taking Price in Round 1, only to then split time with Emmanuel Wilson and George Holani, would be a major let-down for Price in his rookie season.
Not only would Price not have nearly as good a rookie season in a split role, but for the Seahawks, it would be a questionable decision to spend a Round 1 pick on him and use him as sparingly as this report indicates.
Seattle's plan with the running back room is not just bad news for Price, but is a let-down compared to the excitement of seeing a first-round pick get involved in the offense right away, especially considering how barren the RB room is at the moment.
