Seahawks predicted to pull off blockbuster trade for $106 million star defender

The Seattle Seahawks have an elite roster but if there's one area where they could use an addition or two, it's along the edge.

The Seahawks lost key depth in Boye Mafe in free agency and the team is lacking a true star edge rusher that can anchor a pass-rush.

With that in mind, Matt Johnson of Sportsnaut predicts the Seahawks will pull off a blockbuster trade for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

Here's the proposal Johnson offers up, along with his thoughts on a potential Raiders-Seahawks trade involving Crosby:

  • Seattle Seahawks trade: 32nd and 64th overall picks
  • Las Vegas Raiders trade: Maxx Crosby

For the Seattle Seahawks, the time is now to go all-in and build a defense that could potentially win the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons. Crosby might carry some long-term durability risks, but Seattle would have depth at edge rusher behind him. What’s most important is that for the next two seasons, he could be one of the best three-down edge defenders in the NFL and having a disruptor of his caliber would allow Mike Macdonald to get even more creative with his defense. Plus, Seattle does have the cap space to pull of something like this.

Crosby is one of the better edge rushers in the league and adding him would give the Seahawks an embarrassment of riches on defense that would only increase Seattle's chances of repeating.

Seattle also has a good enough roster that it can afford to give up that kind of draft capital, and the team has the cap space to take on Crosby's contract.

As much as we'd love this deal for the Seahawks, there are multiple reasons why it won't happen.

For starters, Crosby has now re-committed to the Raiders after the trade with the Baltimore Ravens didn't go through, so it appears he's no longer looking to be traded.

Furthermore, the Raiders never wanted to deal Crosby in the first place unless they got what they wanted, which was two first-round picks. Now that Crosby isn't looking to be traded, the Raiders can continue to stand firm on that price.

So, if the Seahawks truly want the five-time Pro Bowler, they'd have to offer more than what Johnson proposes here, and even then Las Vegas might not deal him.
