Seahawks host former Pro Bowl Steelers 1,000-yard RB on free agent visit

The Seattle Seahawks came into the 2026 NFL offseason with a clear issue: they knew they were going to need to resolve the running back position.

Kenneth Walker III left for the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, and while the Seahawks have hope for George Holani, they signed Emmanuel Wilson from the Green Bay Packers; they still could use more running back help.

With such a need still present, the Seahawks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, have hosted former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and 1,000-yard Pro Bowl rusher Najee Harris on a free agent visit.

"Former Chargers and Steelers RB Najee Harris visited the Seahawks today, per the wire," Rapoport reports. "And the plan is to visit the Raiders next, source said."

While Zach Charbonnet should be back at some point, it won't be for a while. Seattle needs more running back help, and this visit could be a good way to bolster the room.

Wilson and Holani aren't terrible options, and while they could take a chance on a rookie in a weaker running back class in the 2026 NFL Draft, they need a stable presence in the backfield.

Harris, who, in four years with the Steelers, had 1,000 yards every year he was in Pittsburgh, would be a nice option to add to the offense.

This past season for the Los Angeles Chargers, however, he sustained a torn Achilles, which is a major concern for any team showing interest in Harris.

But that's why they hosted him on a free agent visit. His free agency is different than other players, as he needs to find a landing spot that's okay with his health.

With where the Seahawks running back room is, Harris would make a lot of sense. He's, at worst, a veteran presence who's had at least 1,000 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns in every season of his Steelers career.

He's also a capable receiver, catching 74 passes for 467 yards and three touchdowns in his rookie season. While he might not be asked to do so much in 2026 for the Seahawks, he would be a nice depth piece at worst for Seattle as they try to replace Walker.
