The Long Walk movie adaptation
Also present at the panel were The Long Walk cast members David Jonsson, Tut Nyuot and Garrett Wareing. They were joined by producer Roy Lee and screenwriter J.T. Mollner.
The Long Walk is based on the 1979 novel by Stephen King. The book was originally published under King’s once-anonymous pen name, Richard Bachman. Bachman died suddenly in 1985 of “cancer of the pseudonym,” after bookstore clerk Steve Brown determined the true identity of the writer behind the Bachman books. However, King did portray a character named “Richard Bachman” on the third season of the TV series Sons of Anarchy.
Now, the gruesome novel is being adapted to the big screen by director Francis Lawrence (Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2 and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes). The story follows 100 young men who take part in the titular televised annual competition. Set in a dystopian United States ruled by a totalitarian regime, the story once seemed a little bit more far-fetched than it does today.
In 1988, George A. Romero was in consideration to direct a film adaptation of the novel, but that never came to pass. However, you can expect to see Lawrence’s version of The Long Walk story in theaters on September 12th, 2025. Will you be checking out the movie when it arrives?
