HBO Max debuted the long-awaited Peacemaker Season 2 trailer at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 on Saturday, which also revealed the release date. Although fans have waited three years since Season 1 finished airing in 2022, they won’t have to wait much longer to see Peacemaker and his cohort on-screen again. Series creator and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn introduced the trailer with a short and sweet prerecorded message, which you can see ahead of the trailer below.
With Ozzy Osbourne’s “Road Going Nowhere” playing in the background, the trailer shows Christopher and his squadmates in the aftermath of their quest to stop the Butterflies in Season 1. Frank Grillo appears as Rick Flag Sr., the head of the DCU company A.R.G.U.S., and makes it clear that he’s hellbent on getting vengeance against Peacemaker for killing his son (Rick Flag Jr., played by Joel Kinnaman in The Suicide Squad). This introduces a portal into a parallel world, which mirrors Peacemaker’s in every way except that it’s “better”—except for the giant monsters, I guess.
Drawn to this parallel world, Chris is apparently tempted to leave behind his old life, but his friends won’t let him go quite so easily. All told, if the new season is as fun as the trailer, it’s bound to be a hit.
Peacemaker Season 2 debuts Thursday, August 21 on HBO Max.
Starring John Cena as the titular Christopher Smith AKA Peacemaker; Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo; Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase AKA Vigilante; Jennifer Holland as Agent Emilia Harcourt; Steve Agee as John Economos; and Dee Bradley Baker as Eagly, Peacemaker takes place right after The Suicide Squad (2021) and picks up when the character returns home after recovering from his encounter with Bloodsport.
