It’s hard to believe that the Jason universe has only been around for 45 years. For horror fans, it feels like the iconic slasher has been around since the beginning of time. Clearly, such a milestone deserves celebration. This is exactly what Jason Universe and Horror, Inc. are aiming to do at this year’s San Diego Comic Con, with a panel that’ll net in-person attendees a few exclusive goodies to keep the joyous spirit of violent movie slashing going.
The panel is scheduled for Friday, July 25th, 2025, and it will run from 5:30-6:30pm in room 5AB. Here’s the official description for it, found on the SDCC panel schedule page:
Jason Universe: Celebrating 45 Years of Friday the 13th
It’s been 45 years since Jason first haunted our screens—and now, it’s time to return for a new era. Join Jason Universe and Horror, Inc. to celebrate the legacy, evolution, and future of one of horror’s most iconic franchises with Horror, Inc. president Robert Barsamian, VP Robbie Barsamian, and CMO Sheri Conn; Sweet Revenge writer/director Mike P. Nelson (Wrong Turn; Silent Night, Deadly Night); and Atomic Monster EVP of Film Judson Scott (M3GAN, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It). This can’t-miss panel moderated by Mondo senior creative director Peter Santa-Maria (a.k.a. AttackPeter) will dive deep into Jason’s blood-soaked history and what’s lurking ahead, with an inside look at the brand-new design of Jason and his infamous hockey mask, as well as an exclusive first look at the upcoming Jason Universe short form vignette Sweet Revenge.
Jason is gearing up for a new era of killing that is already well into mapping its immediate future. The announcement of a series titled Crystal Lake surprised fans with what what’s been labeled a prequel to Friday the 13thto focus on the original killer, Pamela Vorhees (Jason’s mom). It slated for release on Peacock, with a premiere date yet to be announced. Additionally, Jason got a new look courtesy of Greg Nicotero (Creepshow, The Walking Dead). It’s a conservative redesign that focuses on the details rather than on a complete makeover.
The new Jason mask will be for grabs through a giveaway for those who attend the panel as well, signaling an intense drive to get people talking about the hockey mask-wearing killer with the same level of enthusiasm as he was in the Eighties. If you’re a fan and you’re going to SDCC, this is a must-see.
