Following its premiere at their San Diego Comic-Con panel, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the trailer for the animated film Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires via IGN:
Directed by Juan Meza-Léon (Harley Quinn), and written by Ernie Altbacker (Justice League Dark: Apokolips War), Aztec Batman reimagines the Dark Knight as an indigenous warrior battling the Spanish invasion of the Aztec Empire in 1519. Hernán Cortés himself is cast in the role of the film’s take on Two-Face, and the movie also includes new takes on the Joker (Yoka), Catwoman (Jaguar Woman), and Poison Ivy (Forest Ivy).
Aztec Batman will be released digitally on September 19, and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23. It is rated R for violence and bloody images, and will be available in English and Spanish. English-language cast members include Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I., Suicide Squad) as Batman, and Raymond Cruz (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul), while the Spanish audio features Horacio García Rojas (Diablero), Omar Chaparro (Love is Blind: Mexico), and Álvaro Morte (Money Heist).
The film will come packaged with two featurettes, whether you purchase it digitally or physically: The Battle Cry of Aztec Batman, a general behind-the-scenes feature, and The Batman Mythology and Aztec Inspiration, where Altbacker and Hernandez will discuss how the film mixes historically accuracy with the iconic characters of Gotham. In the meantime, you can rewatch the trailer, check out the key art below, and stay tuned to The Beat for more coverage from SDCC ’25.
