"Screamed indigestion and overthrown passes": Dave Portnoy blasts Drake Maye over pick 6 disaster vs. Bengals

Drake Maye entered Sunday's game versus Cincinnati as one of the most best players in the NFL this season, leading the league in passing yards.

However, the New England quarterback's first-half performance was disappointing. He threw a 33-yard interception in he second quarter that was returned for a touchdown by Geno Stone.

The pick-six increased the Bengals' advantage to 10-0, which left Patriots fans on social media unhappy, including Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy.

Portnoy expressed his frustration on X.

"These are some of the worst passes I’ve ever seen thrown in the history of the NFL. I’m not saying it was the jalapeño sourdough bread but I didn’t trust that from the jump. Screamed indigestion and overthrown passes. #drakemaye," Portnoy tweeted.

New England overcame an early deficit to lead Cincinnati 17-13 at halftime. The Pats are looking to extend their winning streak to nine games.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith stirred up controversy on Thursday by accusing Drake Maye of lying about not knowing that Cam Newton was on "First Take." Dave Portnoy went on a tirade after the video went viral, criticizing Smith for his remarks.

Portnoy demanded Smith apologize to the quarterback, the Patriots and to him. He argued that it's possible Maye really didn't know Newton appears regularly on the show, noting that he wasn’t aware of it either.

“You don’t call a man a liar," Portnoy said on X. "Smith owes Maye an apology. "First Take," since Skip (Bayless) left, it’s been a revolving door. People in, out. I, hand to God, had no idea Cam Newton was on that show. "I had absolutely no idea he was on it. I didn’t even know Cam Newton worked for ESPN. I thought he did his own gig. So, to call Drake Maye, a man of honor, a man of integrity, to call him a liar, you say his family are liars. Well, you owe us, me, Drake Maye, the (Patriots ownership family) Krafts, all Patriots fans an apology."

Maye has made significant progress in his second NFL season. He has recorded 2,836 passing yards and 20 touchdowns, with a 71.9% completion rate.
