Scotland knows a point against Brazil can all but secure progress to the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time in the country's history.

Even a narrow defeat would keep Steve Clarke's men in the hunt to go through as one of the best third-place finishers.

But Brazil will be gunning for a win to secure top spot in Group C and might need a high-scoring victory to make sure of that.

Morocco shared a 1-1 draw with Brazil in their opening match and has already eliminated Haiti in their final match. If they win, as expected, Brazil will have to better their result to finish first.

It could make for some daunting moments for the Tartan Army, but they know history is within grasp.

Scotland projected starting 11

(3-4-2-1, right to left) 1. A. Gunn (GK) — 13. J. Hendry, 5. G. Hanley, 6. K. Tierney — 2. A. Hickey, 19. L. Ferguson, 11. R. Christie, 3. A. Robertson — 4. S. McTominay, 7. J. McGinn — 10. C. Adams

  • Injured: A. Hickey (doubt)
  • Suspended: None
  • On a yellow card: K. McLean, A. Hickey,

Steve Clarke is likely to stick with his preferred three centre-backs approach, meaning Ben Gannon Doak will have to be satisfied witha place on the bench once again

Scott McKenna has missed the opening couple of games due to a calf injury but is now back in training. Aaron Hickey sat out the defeat to Morocco and remains a doubt.

Midfielder Lewis Ferguson sat out training at the weekend but that was simply a precautionary response to his heavy workload in the first two matches.

Lyndon Dykes came off the bench against Morocco and caused some problems, but it would be a surprise to see him start ahead of either Che Adams or Lawrence Shankland.

Brazil projected starting 11

(4-2-3-1, right to left) 1. Alisson (GK) — 13. Danilo, 4. Marquinhos, 3. Gabriel, 16. Douglas Santos — 5. Casemiro, 8. B. Guimaraes — 26. Rayan, 20. L. Paqueta, 7. Vinicius Jr. — 9. M. Cunha

  • Injured: Raphinha (hamstring)
  • Suspended: None

Raphinha was forced off against Haiti with a hamstring injury and will miss out. Bournemouth winger Rayan could force his way into the starting XI.

That's a far more likely scenario that Neymar starting, although the veteran attacker is back to fitness and might feature from the bench,

Matheus Cunha came into the lineup against Haiti and will lead the attack once again after scoring a first-half brace.

Scotland vs. Brazil predictions, betting odds

Both of these teams endured a torrid opening against an energetic and technically excellent Morocco side.

The onus will be on Brazil to get on the front foot, with Scotland looking to stay in the game until the final 20 minutes. But the Selecao appear to be clicking under Carlo Ancelotti and have enough in the tank to leave the Tartan Army playing the waiting game among the third-place finishers.

  • Score prediction: Scotland 0-3 Brazil
