Savannah Guthrie shared a rare admission about feeling “like a failure” after her “horrible” 2009 divorce from her ex-husband, former BBC journalist Mark Orchard.

“I was in my 30s. I felt old, but I now see that I was pretty young, and I was sad about it,” Guthrie, 54, recalled on the debut episode of Hoda Kotb’s new YouTube series, “Joy Rides,” Wednesday.

“And I was also starting a new job at a place called NBC and trying really hard to make my way and make my little dream come true while other dreams were falling apart.”

“And it made me have to really dig deep, and I felt like a failure,” Guthrie told her former “Today” show co-host.

The “Mostly What God Does: Reflections on Seeking and Finding His Love Everywhere” author went on to add that her breakthrough moment came when she looked to her faith for answers.

“I realized I didn’t have to be perfect to be loved by God,” she continued. “I didn’t even have to be close because I was definitely a failure.”

“And I really felt loved and carried by God, and that was such an important, integral moment of life,” Guthrie shared.

The former “Today” show co-anchor last shared a comment about her “sad” split from Orchard on Monica Lewinsky’s “Reclaiming” podcast in July 2025.

“It was horrible and sad and it broke my heart,” she said, adding that it took her “years to recover”.

However, she clarified at the time, “I’m not blaming anyone but I don’t really want to get into it.”

Guthrie was married to Orchard — whom she met while covering the Michael Jackson trial — for four years. They tied the knot in 2005. The former couple share no children together.

The journalist eventually moved on with former political advisor Michael Feldman, whom she married in 2014. They share two kids: daughter Vale, 11, and son Charley, 9. They celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary in May 2024.
