Satou Sabally's 2026 season -- and whether she returns to play a further part in it -- remains a great unknown for the New York Liberty.
Sabally last played on June 23, when she suffered her second concussion in eight months against the Las Vegas Aces. The Liberty's marquee free-agent signing remains unavailable for head coach Chris DeMarco, and her injury designation changed Thursday.
Sabally is now listed as having a "head" injury as opposed to a concussion. She is away from the team, with no timeline for her return.

Sabally, a three-time All-Star, has played only 13 games in 2026, over which she has averaged a career-low 10.4 points.
When the Liberty host the Sparks on Thursday, both Leonie Fiebich (left foot) and Satou Sabally (head) will still be OUT, and Satou remains away from the team. Satou last played on 6/23, while Leo last played on 7/3. Chris DeMarco said last week that Satou’s absence was excused.

Sabally's addition in April was supposed to be New York's missing piece as it sought to return to the WNBA Finals. But the 28-year-old remains in an injury labyrinth -- and it might cost her the remainder of the season.
Sabally's longer-term prospects look murky as well. The Liberty signed her to a two-year contract, and right now it is unknown as to when -- or if -- she'll suit up for New York again amid her injuries.
