How Chrissy Teigen and John Legend Keep the Spark Alive in Their Marriage
Sarah Michelle Gellar is flushed with ideas for a long and healthy relationship.
But there’s one very important rule the Star Search judge and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr. follow that has helped the couple keep their marriage going strong after 23 years.
“Separate bathrooms,” Sarah exclusively told E! News’ The Rundown host Erin Lim Rhodes at the Jan. 20 premiere for the Netflix competition series. “That's what I always say."
And the 48-year-old’s fellow Star Search judge Chrissy Teigen, who joined her on the red carpet, agreed 100 percent, noting that she follows a similar rule with husband John Legend.
“It is little things like that,” Chrissy explained. “You got to keep the sexy and preserve the sexy in a little bit of ways.”
The 40-year-old admitted that while John doesn’t do “that all the time,” she makes sure that she does, adding, “For all he knows, I have never farted or pooped.”
As for Sarah, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star and Freddie—who share kids Charlotte, 16, and Rocky, 13—have done their best to keep their decades-long relationship out of the spotlight, with Freddie even sharing that the two often ignore any outside guidance they’re given.
"I've never gotten any good advice," he told E! News in July. "Most of the marriage advice came from dudes that were divorced that thought we would get divorced, too. They were trying to deal with their own issues."
As the 49-year-old explained, he believes that advice is "like peanut butter,” adding, "I may think it's delicious, but if you're allergic, you're dead.”

“So, it doesn't always apply as well as we would hope,” he continued. “I’ve gotten a lot of bad advice about marriage."
And when it comes to their personal lives, the two have also tried to avoid the typical Hollywood lifestyle, with Freddie noting that he believes it’s possible for celebrities to control that "to a certain degree."
"I don't know how deliberate they are in trying to avoid that BS," he said on the Oldish podcast in 2024. "I know how easy it's been for us ‘cause I don't go anywhere."
"People don't see Sarah and I out and about at the popular places," Freddie continued. "We have our restaurants that we like, and they're not super trendy in places where paparazzi hang out. So we're good at avoiding it."
