San Francisco 49ers predicted to lose Mac Jones to intriguing AFC team for Aaron Rodgers reason

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to be linked to potential quarterback moves, and the San Francisco 49ers can help them out with that.

Austen Bundy of FanSided predicted that 49ers quarterback Mac Jones could be on the move, with the Pittsburgh Steelers being the team he’ll land with. Reports have stated that the 49ers could move on from him, but it remains uncertain what they’ll want.

In starts with Brock Purdy out during last season, Jones was really good, leading the 49ers to a 5-3 record during that stretch.

While wins aren’t exactly a QB stat, some fans even wanted him to start over Purdy.

For the Steelers, that could be enough to justify making a trade. Pittsburgh’s quarterback situation doesn’t have an answer due to Aaron Rodgers, and adding a player like Jones would at least provide an option.

“The former 15th overall pick in the 2021 draft started eight games for the San Francisco 49ers last year as Brock Purdy recovered from a nasty case of turf toe. He managed to impress by posting 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions while also leading the team to a 5-3 record in that span.

“If he still wasn't under contract through the 2026 season, he probably would've challenged Malik Willis as the top free agent passer. Instead, a QB-needy team not willing to wait for the 2027 draft would have to negotiate a fair price for his services,” he wrote.

Jones would be a fun option but he’s also tough to give up on for San Francisco. Backups are important and the 49ers have found that out in recent years.
