The San Antonio Spurs and LA Lakers crossed swords in a blockbuster regular-season game at the Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday. Spurs arrived in Los Angeles with a 5-1 record after six games, while the Purple and Gold entered the contest with a 6-2 record after eight games.

Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs' starting lineup, with Harrison Barnes, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell and Julian Champagnie rounding off the starters. On the contrary, the Lakers' starting lineup changed from the previous game as Luka Doncic marked his comeback. Doncic was accompanied by Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura, Deandre Ayton and Jake LaRavia.

The Spurs jumped to a 10-3 lead after Julian Champagnie completed a rare six-point possession. The Lakers looked nervous inside the paint with Wembanyama guarding the rim. The hosts struggled early, missing seven of their first eight three-point attempts and falling behind 18-10 with 5:09 remaining in the quarter.

Wembanyama made a huge defensive play on Deandre Ayton and pulled off a remarkable block. The Lakers trailed the Spurs 29-26 after the first quarter. Doncic played every minute of the period and scored 13 points. The Slovenian superstar received very little help from his teammates in the opening period.
