Back in September, Samsung said that combined sales of the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in Europe were 50% higher than those of the Galaxy Z Fold7 last year. Today, the company is back with an update that covers the first nine weeks of availability.

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra together have seen a 45% increase in sales across Europe in the nine weeks since they went on sale on August 7, compared to Z Fold7 sales in the equivalent weeks of 2025. The company's own headline rounds that up to "almost 50%", but if you've been paying attention, you'll notice that the lead has actually shrunk a bit since September.

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 duo beats Fold7 sales by 45% in Europe, with a catch

More importantly, this is comparing the two book-style foldable phones it launched this year against the one model it released last year. Samsung also hasn't broken the number down by model, so we have no idea whether either of the Fold8s is outselling the Fold7 on its own - which makes a combined figure like this feel a bit disingenuous.

Samsung says the sales increase was driven by "exceptional demand" for the two Folds, and it points to Google search trends as further proof. Across 32 European markets, searches for Samsung foldables went up by over 260% in September compared to August, with the biggest jump (460%) happening in the week of September 6-12, compared to the week before. That's the week in which Apple unveiled its first foldable, the iPhone Duo, and that's definitely not a coincidence. Apple's device, which goes on sale tomorrow, seems to have positively impacted people’s interest in foldables overall.
