The New Orleans Saints may be faced with a tough reality soon. While they've been awarded the No.9 overall pick in the upcoming draft, they don't have the luxury of cap space to go with it. As of now, New Orleans is $52 million over the cap space limit, as this has been an ongoing issue for years.
In order to shed some salary and build for the future, Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report proposed the Saints trading away Cameron Jordan.
The Saints have an aging roster, and they're currently projected to be $52.3 million over the salary cap. Under a new coaching staff that has a different vision, New Orleans may finally purge its roster of high-paid veterans. Defensive end Cameron Jordan has played his entire 14-year career in New Orleans, but his production has significantly dipped over the past two years. The 35-year-old's contract carries a $20.1 million cap hit in 2025.
Jordan isn't getting any younger and while he may want to finish his career as a Saint, it may not be possible given his contract. A trade could be beneficial for both sides, as the Saints would gain cap relief and draft picks while Jordan could potentially land with a contending team. The Saints' legend has been dependable during the entirety of his career in New Orleans, but a parting of ways seems to be on the table potentially.
