Saints urged to sign 21-TD weapon in free agency for Tyler Shough

The New Orleans Saints didn't have a particularly great 2025 season.

In the first year under head coach Kellen Moore, the team finished with a 6-11 record. However, rookie quarterback Tyler Shough showed some flashes and looks like he could be the long-term passer in New Orleans.

To make life easier for Shough, though, the team needs to add more weapons. Chris Olave is a legitimate No. 1 receiver, but there's nothing to get excited about behind him. Devaughn Vele had the second-most catches and yards among the team's receivers, with just 25 for 293.

As a result, don't be surprised to see the team add a weapon or two in free agency. As is usually the case, the Saints are in a horrible cap situation, so they will likely have to settle for lower-priced additions.

Zach Pereles of CBS Sports recently identified logical landing spots for top free agents. For the Saints, Pereles named receiver Romeo Doubs as a possibility.

Regarding Doubs and the Saints, Pereles offered the following:

The Saints have already determined that they'll move forward into 2026 with Tyler Shough as their quarterback, and in doing so, they should upgrade his surroundings. Doubs would provide a strong No. 2 option opposite Chris Olave.

As Pereles mentioned, the Saints desperately need a WR2. Doubs has been a WR2 in Green Bay, and a solid one at that.

In 2025, Doubs caught 55 passes for 724 yards and six touchdowns. It was a career-high in yards for the receiver and he's had at least 600 yards in each of the last three seasons.

Spotrac projects Doubs to land a four-year deal worth around $12 million annually. This is the type of contract the Saints could likely afford, and likely wouldn't do much better than Doubs for that price.

In Green Bay, Doubs had to battle Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, and others for targets. In New Orleans, Doubs would be the clear No. 2 option behind Olave, so it's possible he could reach a level we haven't seen.

Because of the Doubs' consistency, there could be several teams interested in his services. Pereles identified the New York Giants, New York Jets, and San Francisco 49ers as teams who could challenge the Saints for the receiver.
