The New Orleans Saints didn't let their fourth quarterback spot stay open long.
And to fill it, they just brought back the guy they already had.
On Wednesday, the Saints re-signed Hunter Dekkers.
Dekkers had been waived on July 31, but after more roster maneuvering, the Saints had room to bring him back to camp.
He's behind three others on the depth chart. The trio of Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and second-round rookie Tyler Shough is currently competing for the Week 1 starting job.

Dekkers was an undrafted free agent signee by the Saints after their rookie minicamp in the spring. He's had a winding journey to this point.
In 2022, Dekkers led the Big 12 in completions and completion percentage while playing at Iowa State.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound lefty was then indicted on charges related to sports gambling and stepped away from the Cyclones.
He resurfaced in 2024 and played at Iowa Western, a junior college.
With the Reivers, Dekkers went 11-2 with 3,806 passing yards and 32 passing touchdowns.
He went undrafted, but the Saints brought him to their rookie minicamp and initially signed him on May 12.

Dekkers certainly has some arm talent, although his best hope for this season is almost certainly a spot on the practice squad. If he can earn that, he'll maintain a chance at carving out a career as a backup down the road.
For now, he's likely just happy to be back in a New Orleans jersey trying to pursue his dream.
