The New Orleans Saints made a lot of headway with their free agency this spring, as they added David Edwards to round out the offensive line and Travis Etienne Jr. to bolster their running back room.
But, with needs at cornerback, edge rusher, and most importantly, wide receiver, the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft is a big time of the year for the Saints. They need to make the most of their first and second round picks, especially their 8th overall selection.
With a big WR need, according to NFL analyst Ryan Fowler, the Saints are one of five teams currently scheduled to visit with top Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate ahead of the draft.
Saints among 5 teams visiting with Carnell Tate
"Sources: Ohio State WR Carnell Tate has visits scheduled with the following teams: Washington Commanders, New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints, and Tennessee Titans. With others to be scheduled," Fowler reports.
The Saints need to add a new number two wide receiver opposite Chris Olave for Tyler Shough in the offense, so their interest in Tate isn't a surprise.
But this report from Fowler is the first real sign that the Saints are considering Tate at eighth overall. It was all assumptions, albeit very reasonable ones, that the Saints would consider Tate eighth overall.

Now, Tate is firmly in play for the Saints with the eighth pick to pair with fellow former Ohio State Buckeyes WR in Olave in the Saints offense.
Last year for Ohio State, Tate had 875 receiving yards with nine touchdowns and 51 receptions. He's a fun wide receiver and likely the first one to go off the board in the upcoming NFL Draft.
With only the Chiefs picking after the Saints among this group of interested teams, this might not be the best news for New Orleans when it comes to landing the Ohio State WR. The Titans, Giants, and Commanders all pick before the Saints, and Tate is an option.
