Saints' QB Spencer Rattler leads the NFL in a cool stat that proves New Orleans' belief in him

Spencer Rattler still might have a future with the New Orleans Saints.

That might be a bit hard to hear after the Saints were absolutely clobbered by the Seattle Seahawks, but there are still good signs for Rattler.

One of them is his pass attempts breakdown: Rattler is tied for first in the NFL in passes thrown at least 10 yards down the field, according to Nick Underhill.

Rattler has attempted 44 such passes through three games. That's tied for tops in the NFL with Geno Smith and Dak Prescott.

He has completed 38.6% of those throws, which is lower than Smith and Prescott but is higher than a number of other names further down the list (Bryce Young, Cam Ward, Bo Nix, Kyler Murray, Aaron Rodgers).

It at least seems like the Saints trust Rattler enough to call plays that push the ball down the field, interspersed with a decent diet of screen passes.

Rattler was once upon a time projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but then he fell off for a couple years and ended up being a fifth-rounder for New Orleans.

Maybe he's not a long-term savior, but he also still seems to have real potential. And he's actually exactly 365 days younger than the Saints' second-round rookie QB, Tyler Shough.

New Orleans could opt to make a QB change at some point just to shake things up and to test out what they've really got with Shough.

But in the meantime, it looks like Rattler is going to keep on chucking it.
