It's been a wild offseason for the New Orleans Saints.
Despite a new coaching staff coming in, the front office opted against stripping the roster down and starting a rebuild.
Given the financial commitments they've made to several veterans, it seems the Saints have to lean into the win-now mindset.
Entering the offseason workouts with a relatively thin edge rusher room, Pro Football Network's Sterling Xie predicted New Orleans will go after three-time All-Pro Von Miller.
"With Brandon Staley potentially using more odd fronts with edge rushers in a two-point stance, a vet like Miller would make more sense than he did in Allen’s defense. Miller was still productive in a part-time role last year, producing six sacks and a healthy 16.1% pressure rate. He’s a designated pass rusher at this point, but that’s what the Saints need," Xie wrote.
Despite entering the offseason with incredible financial concerns, the Saints have roughly $20 million to work with in terms of salary-cap space, per Over The Cap.
Even though Miller is coming off a six-year deal worth $120 million with the Buffalo Bills, it's highly unlikely he will command a contract anywhere close to that.
The eight-time Pro Bowl selection appeared in 13 games with the Bills in 2024, registering 6.0 sacks eight quarterback hits and seven tackles for loss.
As the Saints look to end their four-year playoff drought, bolstering the pass-rush will be a way for the defense to stay competitive.
