The New Orleans Saints made it a goal of theirs this offseason to build the offense around Tyler Shough. They added Travis Etienne Jr. in free agency, and then in Round 1 of the NFL Draft, they took Jordyn Tyson.
With the No. 8 pick, the Saints drafted Tyson to join Chris Olave in the wide receiver room. It was a bit of a risky pick with Tyson's injury history, but the upside is massive.
Unfortunately for the Saints, the worst fears have come true. According to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, Tyson's hamstring injury is a serious one, and he's going to miss potentially upwards of two months with this issue.
Jordyn Tyson could miss two months with hamstring injury
"Jordyn Tyson is likely to miss time to start the season, possibly deep into September, per source," Underhill reports. "Different hamstring than last time but it's going to take time."
Tyson earlier this offseason missed some time due to a hamstring injury, and the concerns about his injury history certainly picked up then. But he was okay and came back for the Saints.
The issue now, though, is that this hamstring issue is not the one he had before, and he's now going to miss a lot longer.
Underhill's report indicates he could miss around two months if he's out until late September. The 22-year-old rookie receiver is going to be sidelined to start the season.
If the Saints place him on injured reserve, he'll have to miss four games, which would mean he'd be out until after the October 5 game against the Atlanta Falcons.
But there's a chance that Tyson misses only until late September, which could mean he's only going to miss the first 2-3 games, depending on how quickly he can recover.
The Saints begin the season on September 13 against the Detroit Lions, and Tyson seems likely to miss that game. The September 20 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens and the September 27 game against the Las Vegas Raiders could be return dates for Tyson.
But if he's going to miss two months, he might not be back until mid to late October. Hopefully, he's back before then, but it seems clear that the No. 8 overall pick is going to miss a lot of time this season.
