The Buffalo Sabres didn't sign Bowen Byram or Alex Tuch to long-term contracts.
Instead, both have been traded away. Zach Benson looks to be a different story, at least.
The latest report from Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman is that Benson and the Sabres are working toward a long-term deal.
Friedman writes that it could be worth about $50 million in total value:
Also today, BUF GM Jarmo Kekalainen was very upbeat about extension discussions with Zach Benson.
That’s closing in. Don’t have exact specifics, but hearing it’s in the $50M range.
Good for team and player

That'd be a big win for both Benson and the Sabres.
The pesky winger erupted in the postseason to prove he's a big-game player for Buffalo. He's earned the payday.
And the Sabres, after parting ways with a few key pieces, can definitely use the win of stability.
Benson's size may limit his upside just a tad, but he can be a top-six forward for a long time in the NHL.
It'll be some great news for Buffalo to get a deal like this done sooner rather than later.
