Folsom (CA) quarterback Ryder Lyons is one of the most coveted recruits in high school football.

USC, Oregon, Ole Miss, and BYU are in hot pursuit of the 5-star junior, along with at least 28 other schools to offer.

Between his huge numbers, unbelievable highlights, and state title ring, it's always been easy to see why.

And it just got easier.

Lyons erupted for career-highs of 513 yards and eight touchdowns on 29-39 completion (74.4%) on Friday, Nov. 15, as Folsom cruised to a 68-28 win over Downey (Modesto) to open the CIF-Sac Joaquin Section Division 1 playoffs. He also added three carries for 21 yards, and didn't turn the ball over one time.

Through 10 games as a junior, Lyons has completed 176 of 245 passes (71.8%) for 2,516 yards and 41 touchdowns to just three interceptions, good for a lofty 139.3 passer rating.

The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder is also a legitimate dual-threat who can both evade and plow through would-be tacklers. Lyons has run 70 times for 419 yards and another eight TDs, which is a team-high.

His Bulldogs are heavily favored to win their fourth consecutive Sac-Joaquin Section D1 championship, and will take on Inderkum in the semifinals on Friday. The winner will face Turlock or Oak Ridge in the finals – teams that Folsom defeated 56-14 and 35-7, respectively, in the regular season.

Lyons was one of the top breakout stars of 2023 as a sophomore, leading 13-2 Folsom to a CIF-SJS Division 1 title and CIF State 1-A title with 3,578 yards and 38 touchdowns on 259-381 completion (68%). He also ran for 929 yards and 23 touchdowns.

247Sports reports USC as the favorite to land Lyons, followed by top-ranked Oregon and Mississippi. BYU appears to be firmly in the mix as well, as Lyons took his second visit to Provo the day after his eight-score outburst.

His father, Tim Lyons, played defensive back at BYU in 1996 and 1997.

Ryder's older brother, Walker Lyons, was one of the top tight ends in the Class of 2023, and is now a freshman at USC after spending a year in Norway serving a Latter Day Saints mission.

Whichever college nabs Lyons will be landing an explosive playmaker with a big arm, plus athletic measurables, massive pedigree, and all the projectable upside one could ask of a likely NFL prospect.
