According to The New York Post, after the Sacramento Kings’ 131-94 loss to the Orlando Magic, Westbrook’s wife, Nina, shared a threatening email she received from a fan reacting to the game. She posted the message to her Instagram Stories, making clear that this kind of behavior is not new for their family.

The email, sent with the subject line “F–k you,” included direct insults aimed at Westbrook’s performance and escalated into a violent threat. “Your piece of f–kn s–t husband sucks so f–kn bad can’t even get 10 points is pathetic,” the message read. It ended with, “I hope you both die in a car crash dumb bitch.”
Nina said the message reflects a larger issue that is growing across the league. “The negative effects of sports betting. Brings out the worst in ppl,” she wrote, suggesting that increased gambling tied to games is fueling more aggressive fan behavior.
Westbrook finished the loss with five points, shooting 2-of-8 from the field and 1-of-6 from beyond the arc. The veteran guard is in his first season with Sacramento after signing a one-year deal ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
While the performance drew criticism, Nina emphasized that the harassment goes beyond normal sports discourse. She noted that messages like this have become “routine” for their family and said she felt compelled to speak out.
“I’m sharing this now because I’m growing increasingly concerned for athletes,” she explained. “It’s something my husband and I consider routine.” She added that the behavior is part of a broader pattern tied to gambling, calling it “one of the early results of amped up sports betting.”

Nina, a licensed marriage and family therapist, also addressed the psychological side of the issue. “Gambling is a highly addictive behavior, and people should understand the risks associated with it,” she said, warning about its potential impact on individuals and families.
