WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that completion of the framework for a peace deal with Iran may “take a few days” as the two sides scramble to iron out the language.
Meanwhile, Iran released an angry statement following US strikes late Monday that targeted two Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) boats that were allegedly seen laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, slamming it as a “gross violation” of the ongoing cease-fire.
“It’s a lot of talking back and forth going on about specific language in the initial document,” Rubio told reporters in India. “So it’ll take a few days. The president’s expressed his desire to make [sure] he’s either going to make a good deal or no deal.”

“The straits have to be open. They’re going to be open one way or the other. So they need to be open. What’s happening there is unlawful; it’s illegal. It’s unsustainable for the world; it’s unacceptable,” he said.
“The straits need to be open, unimpeded, without tolls. And obviously that needs to happen immediately as soon as anything’s agreed to.”
