Rough week halts the Blue Jays' progress in the latest power rankings

Two weeks ago, it looked like things were starting to click for the Toronto Blue Jays. They were getting some pieces back, and the team had been putting together some wins.

They swept the Boston Red Sox before splitting what ended up being just a two-game series against the Chicago Cubs due to inclement weather, which helped them make moves in the power rankings.

However, this past week has stalled all of that progress. They couldn't get much of anything going against the Houston Astros or the Texas Rangers

Rough week halts the Blue Jays' progress in the latest power rankings

The Blue Jays started the week with a three-game series against the Astros, where they could only muster one win, losing the series 1-2.

They would then turn their attention to the Rangers, whom they didn't do any better against. They would end up getting swept in the four-game series that ended over the weekend.

With these struggles last week, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter has knocked this team down a few spots from No. 16 to No. 20 in his latest power rankings.

"The Blue Jays have matched a season-high six-game losing streak heading into Monday's matchup with the New York Mets, and that came after a 10-6 stretch that had them trending up. With eight Blue Jays players advancing on to Phase 2 of All-Star voting, it could be a Toronto-centric starting lineup for the American League."

What's interesting, as Reuter mentions, is just how many players are in the thick of the All-Star voting. Compare that to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who lead all of MLB with their 55-30 record, and have only six players who have advanced to Phase 2 of the voting.

This is something that has frustrated baseball fans and something the league will have to look into if they don't want something like this to happen in the future.
