Like every other NFL fan, Ron Harper witnessed Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf getting into a physical altercation with a fan over the past weekend. During the first half of the Steelers' showdown against the Detroit Lions, Metcalf appeared to throw a punch at the spectator, an action that resulted in severe consequences for the two-time Pro Bowl selection.
On Tuesday, Harper decided to poke some fun at Metcalf's situation. Though the punishment meted on the former Ole Miss star is no laughing matter, Harper couldn't help himself.
"Merry Christmas," Harper tweeted.•

Metcalf will need all the holiday cheer he can get, as he has been suspended by the NFL for the Steelers' last two regular season games. As a result of this suspension, at least $45 million in future guaranteed money has now been voided for the six-year pro.
Earlier this week, Metcalf appealed the two-game suspension but failed to have his sanction overturned or lessened. This means that Metcalf won't be able to help the Steelers in their next game against the Cleveland Browns; if the Steelers come out on top in this matchup, they'll clinch the AFC North division title.
Though Harper tweeted a cheeky response to this situation, he has seen his fair share of fans having ugly interactions with athletes, both during and after his NBA playing days. Just three years after Harper retired, the infamous Malice at the Palace took place, leading to hefty fines and lengthy suspensions for the likes of Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson.
"You can carry his shoes": Ron Harper comes to son Dylan Harper's defense amidst criticism from netizen
Ironically, Harper himself has a propensity for getting into fights with fans on social media.
On Wednesday, one netizen sarcastically offered to teach Harper's son Dylan "how to shoot threes." Unwilling to let this netizen get away with criticizing Dylan, one of the best young prospects of the San Antonio Spurs, Harper fired back.
"You can carry his shoes," he replied. In his rookie season with the Spurs, Dylan Harper is shooting just 27.7% from beyond the arc. Despite this, he has contributed to San Antonio's winning ways by chipping in 12.6 points per game on a 45.8% overall shooting clip.
