Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled out for the rest of the 2026 NFL season, as it was found that he has blood clots in his lungs, and he'll need to take blood thinners for treatment.
It's a terrible situation for Hurts and the Eagles, but the circumstances of how things got to this point are a bit murky. Hurts played against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London with a blood clot in his calf, and after some still-undetermined amount of sleep.
After the odd circumstances of Hurts' situation, the NFLPA asked for an investigation into the handling of Hurts' blood clot issue. The next day, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport shared how Roger Goodell broke his silence on this request for an investigation, and it was a simple three-word message from the NFL Commissioner.
Roger Goodell breaks silence on NFLPA request for an investigation into Jalen Hurts situation
"NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says, 'We welcome it,' with regards to the NFLPA asking for an investigation on Jalen Hurts' medical situation," Rapoport shared.
The NFLPA is asking for an investigation to get clarity on Hurts' situation, and the NFL, through the Commissioner, is welcoming it.
This situation is far from over, as there's plenty more to figure out about what happened with Hurts following Week 4, when he was reportedly cleated, leading to the blood clot in his calf.
What will make this investigation so interesting is that Hurts and his agent Nicole Lynn worked in cooperation with the Eagles' franchise to coordinate messaging after the fact.

That would seem to imply that there isn't some contentious relationship between the Eagles and Hurts behind the scenes.
Obviously it's not known one way or the other, but it seems apparent that Hurts and his team were on board with how things were handled; the story would look a bit different than it has so far.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is welcoming an investigation request from the NFLPA, which is not a surprise. Considering the odd circumstances around this situation, it would've been surprising if the NFLPA didn't request an investigation.
While it might be time before any results are found, if anything of note comes up, the NFL, the Eagles, and Hurts all seem to have no qualms about this situation. But for now, the NFLPA wants an investigation, and the NFL welcomes that, according to Goodell.
