Rockies get Hunter Goodman trade idea with Red Sox that's legitimately intriguing

The Colorado Rockies are going to be trade deadline sellers this season, and there are not many players who could draw serious interest.

Mickey Moniak, Jake McCarthy, and Antonio Senzatela are the most likely players the Rockies could trade. Hunter Goodman will likely receive the most interest, but he's someone the Rockies probably won't trade as one of the best-hitting catchers in MLB.

However, the trade idea proposed by Jim Bowden of The Athletic with the Boston Red Sox for Goodman is legitimately intriguing and would be the kind of deal that the Rockies could actually consider accepting.

"Red Sox receive: Hunter Goodman, C. Rockies receive: Connelly Early, LHP; Kyson Witherspoon, RHP; Marcelo Mayer, SS; Carlos Narvaez, C," Bowden proposed.

Goodman is just 26 years old and under club control through the 2029 season. He has 30 homers this season with 2.6 bWAR and an .886 OPS. He's also a two-time All-Star. All that to say, it would cost a fortune to acquire Goodman.

This trade idea from Bowden with the Red Sox could actually make sense. While giving up Goodman would sting, this four-player package would actually make moving Goodman a realistic decision.

Mayer is just 23 years old and under club control through 2031. While he has just a .594 OPS this season, he was a top prospect before his promotion, and could just use a change of scenery to start living up to the star potential he had coming up to the big leagues.

Narvaez is a 27-year-old catcher who is under club control through 2030, one year longer than Goodman. He has -0.2 bWAR this season with a .559 OPS in 55 games, but a year ago, he posted 2.8 bWAR with a .726 OPS in 118 games.

Early is 24 years old and under club control through 2031. The left-hander has a 3.24 ERA in 21 starts in his big league career so far. He'd be a nice pickup for the Rockies, as they desperately need better pitching.

The only player the Rockies would be getting back that has yet to make their MLB debut in this trade idea is Kyson Witherspoon, the 21-year-old right-hander taken in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft.

He has a 5.07 ERA in 15 starts at High-A this season for the Red Sox, and is one of the top prospects in the Red Sox farm system. He isn't ready for the Majors yet, but he could be an option in a year or two.

The Rockies are going to get plenty of interest in Goodman, and this four-player package would be legitimately intriguing. Narvaez, Mayer, Early, and Witherspoon is a strong package that might move the needle in trade talks about Goodman.
