The Colorado Rockies needed this.
Picking No. 4 overall in Sunday's MLB Draft, there was one name that would mean so much more to the Rockies than any other. And he fell to them, and they didn't pass him up: Ethan Holliday.
Holliday is the son of the all-time great Rockies hitter Matt Holliday. He's the brother of former No. 1 overall pick Jackson Holliday, now a rising star for the Orioles.
This Holliday, the little brother, is a 6-foot-4 shortstop out of Stillwater, Oklahoma. He just finished his senior year of high school.
He's a smooth lefty swinger with power and speed and an absolutely brilliant ball-playing pedigree.
"He's a cornerstone, franchise-type player," MLB Network's Dan O'Dowd said on the broadcast.

Rockies fans don't need to be reminded how tough this era of baseball has been. Some of their fondest memories of this quarter-century date back to that No. 7 'Holliday' who made so many incredible plays in big moments for the franchise.
The hope in Colorado now is that Ethan Holliday can be the next face of the franchise, the young man who alters the course of a Rockies team in dire need of a course correction.
He's got the talent. He's got the charisma. He's got the support system.
And now Ethan Holliday is heading to the Colorado Rockies. It's the start of a new era there. It's the Ethan Holliday Era in Colorado.
