Rockets trade for Kevin Durant flips around their NBA title timeline

The Houston Rockets have officially fired their warning shot. This is a team that wants to win an NBA championship, now.

And to do it, they traded for Kevin Durant.

ESPN's Shams Charania broke the news on Sunday, an NBA-altering trade for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks and multiple draft picks.

Durant's Suns tenure wasn't what anyone wanted, but that wasn't really his fault.

Even as a 36-year old this past season, Durant averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He shot 52.7 percent from the floor, 43 percent from 3 and 83.9 percent from the foul line.

Durant is one of the most gifted scorers in NBA history, and now he's a Rocket.

They made this move to chase the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.

Houston was actually the No. 2 seed in the West this year, but the Rockets didn't make it out of the first round.

They decided that Green wasn't the guy to get them over the hump after some big postseason struggles.

Durant turns 37 in September, but he's still a bucket, and now he's the top scorer Houston has.

Alperen Sengun will likely be with the Rockets after Durant will, but this is no longer Sengun's timeline. It's Durant's.

The Rockets are saying that they want to win an NBA championship in the next couple seasons. They probably have the roster to do it now.

But everything is sped up now in Houston, for sure. Durant's presence means that there's no time to waste. The Rockets have to make this happen in the here and now.
