The Houston Rockets had an excellent season during the 2024-25 NBA campaign. However, in the postseason, the Rockets' biggest issue came to light.
The team doesn't have a true star who can take over at any moment, and that'll be an issue for them again next year if they decide to run it back. Jalen Green isn't good enough to be a top option on a championship team, and while Alperen Sengun might be that one day, as well as Amen Thompson, they could use some more scoring power.
That's why, in a proposed trade idea from Dan Favale of Bleacher Report, they’d accomplished that by trading for Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns. His trade idea would move Green, Jabari Smith, the No. 10 pick, and a 2027 first-round pick in a three-team trade with the Washington Wizards.
“The Rockets reportedly aren't interested in Durant because he'll be entering his age-37 season next year. That makes some sense if they think landing him requires them to empty their asset armory.
“This trade wouldn't do that. Houston has no room for the No. 10 pick in its rotation, and the extension-eligible Smith has a murky future with the Rockets if they're married to both Alperen Şengün and Amen Thompson,” Favale wrote.

Despite being 37 years old, Durant is still one of the top five to 10 players in the NBA, and doesn't look like he's slowing down anytime in the near future.
For a Rockets team that would love to add some scoring, Durant would be exactly that.
He’s still one of the best scorers in NBA history and would be a big help to this young Houston team, which is competing quicker than some initially expected.
