Reporter says Nets are 'a team to watch this offseason' in free agency & NBA draft

The Nets have faced some dull years since the anticipation that came with the signings of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in 2019.

That never turned out to be anything but a disappointment for the franchise, even after efforts to add James Harden to the roster.

With a mesh of young players and semi-established veterans, the Nets have important decisions to make this offseason.

Why will Brooklyn be so active this summer?

NBA reporter Sam Amico highlighted some of the important reasons why people should watch Brooklyn closely.

The Nets are weighing their options, and want to continue to set themselves up for the future.

Early last year, they were already a team monitoring the Giannis Antetokounmpo situation in Milwaukee.

That looks like it will likely fall through, so their mindset might have to adapt.

The Nets have a lot of draft capital from all the stars/players they've unloaded, and with big contracts being unloaded, comes extra cap space.

With all that salary space available, the Nets can make an aggressive offer on a player in free agency that other teams can't afford.

This won't make them championship-ready but could set their future up or give them a moveable salary if they eventually want to part ways with that player.

It's been evident that the team still wants to get younger and draft high in the lottery to add a franchise-level player, so a player like Cam Johnson could be shopped this offseason.

The Nets have a lot of work to do and might be a few years out from anything special, but being one of the teams with flexibility in key areas is a good asset to have when they're in no rush to capitalize on a current window.
