Reds' Hunter Greene trade cost revealed by ESPN's Jeff Passan

The Cincinnati Reds are in a situation where they're likely looking to add at the MLB trade deadline while knowing that they've still got a lot of work to do and help to get to firmly secure playoff positioning.

That raises the question of just how much the Reds may give up in order to fill needs.

ESPN's Jeff Passan broke it down on Wednesday, and he tossed the name Hunter Greene into his analysis.

Greene is hurt, but he's the Reds' ace. Apparently, he's not untouchable.

"They're not inclined to trade Hunter Greene under a team-friendly contract unless it's for a star," Passan writes.

Passan goes on to say that at this trade deadline, there isn't a player worthy of Greene in the Reds' eyes.

He lists Cincinnati's best fit to acquire is Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran, and wonders if Andrew Abbott could fit Boston's asking price.

Passan also sees a scenario where the Reds don't do anything nearly as bold.

"They're likelier to go the half-measure route, operating on the periphery of the bat and relief markets through incremental upgrades and hoping that Terry Francona can sprinkle his pixie dust downstate the same way he did in Cleveland for more than a decade," Passan writes.
