Gunther is set to make his WWE return on next week's episode of Monday Night RAW. He will face Je’Von Evans in John Cena's Last Time Is Now Tournament.
Evans has been making moves on NXT and has quickly established himself as one of the most popular superstars in the company. Evans has already made his main roster debut while teaming up with Rey Fenix on SmackDown. He has also answered Sami Zayn's US Open Challenge.
Speaking on The Masked Man Show, Evans stated that he was both excited and nervous about facing Gunther. However, he plans on pulling off an upset win over the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
“I'm excited. I'm nervous, of course, and when I get there, bro, I’m gonna have so many butterflies and all. But I've literally watched Gunther for a very long time. I was watching Gunther on the indies because I wanted to learn how to work against bigger people. He was like a great example of that. So, I'm excited. I know it's going to be a hard fight. Like, we're going to be scrapping. I ain't backing down either, you know what I mean? Like, you try me, I'm going to chop you back, though, G. I'm so excited. Like I said, this is a great opportunity to showcase what I can do. And I know there's a lot of people that are looking at this fight kind of like David and Goliath. But we know how the David and Goliath story ended, and I am planning on, you know, redoing that story," said Evans. Is Rhea a Bigger Draw Than Brock Lesnar? - Watch Here!
Gunther has been absent from WWE since SummerSlam 2025
Gunther's latest WWE appearance was at SummerSlam 2025, when he lost the World Heavyweight Championship to CM Punk. He became a two-time champion after regaining the belt from Jey Uso, having previously lost the title at WrestleMania 41.
The Ring General will hope to make progress in the Last Time Is Now Tournament and eventually face John Cena in his retirement match. Earlier in the year, he defeated Goldberg in his retirement match.
Meanwhile, for Je'von Evans, his goal will be to secure the biggest win of his WWE career so far. He is also set to team up with Leon Slater and challenge DarkState for the NXT Tag Team Championships at NXT Gold Rush Week 1.
